Subterranean Boathouse

Intended to provide storage and easy lake access for the owner’s boat and jet-ski collection, this beach-side boat house also includes a comfortable kitchen and bathroom component. The structure itself is cut in to the existing bluff to minimize visual distraction from the existing house, and designed to emphasize the already-established axiality and procession of the property.

Plan. Rather than take it as a point of departure, we chose to emphasize the symmetry of the existing house with new landscaping. Our intervention exists as an intentionally quiet insertion along the existing dominant axis of the property.
