Situated on a ravine with views of Lake Michigan, the Fisher Lane House was a total renovation of a 1950s house, a labyrinth of walls and tiny rooms that had fallen into disrepair. The existing floor plans were completely reconfigured and nearly every interior wall was removed or relocated. Two additions, an entry foyer and a two-car garage, complete and enhance the entry sequence and new interiors. Moveable walls and custom cabinetry are located to take advantage of the views of the Lake while providing wall space to accommodate an extensive collection of European art.
The master bedroom suite is located on the lower level and features the Lavatorium, an oval of fluted art glass that allows natural light to penetrate and illuminate the space while ensuring privacy. The Lavatorium is appointed with back-painted glass countertops, back-to-back lavatories, custom three-way mirrors and medicine cabinets that reflect the color and refracted light created by the glass. Custom paneled doors house closets and other amenities, and define a simple backdrop for discrete entry to and from the room.
