James Swann

Intern Architect

James Swann joined Grunsfeld Shafer Architects in 2011 as an Architectural Intern. He earned his Bachelor of Architecture from the Fay Jones School of Architecture at the University of Arkansas. Shortly after graduating, James moved to Chicago to start his architecture career; currently he is working toward earning his licensure.

While at the University of Arkansas, James participated in the UARK Design Build Program, constructing two modular houses in central Arkansas. The first project was later recognized for its design in the 2010 December issue of Architecture Record. During his senior year, he was the head of construction documents and one of two project managers. These two innovative designs have been a key part of the DLRCDC’s (Downtown Little Rock Community Development Corporation) attempt to revitalize the Pettaway Park neighborhood in down town Little Rock.

Other than design build, James also studied abroad in Italy working on a large-scale theoretical project that was awarded the best comprehensive design amongst his classmates. Also during his duration at the U of A, he received an intern position at the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute designing new scenarios for the Master Plan and has worked for Terry Burruss, a local small-scale architect in Arkansas.
